Partnerships

In keeping with the Portland State University motto Let Knowledge Serve the City, partnerships with the community are inextricably linked to the research, teaching, and operations of PSU. Each year, civic engagement initiatives across the curriculum address issues critical to the region and the world. Many of these incorporate aspects of sustainability. Below are some examples

Community Watershed Stewardship Program

This partnership between Portland State University (PSU) and the City of Portland's Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) was developed in response to a pressing community need: As the Portland metro region has urbanized, its streams, rivers and lakes have become increasingly polluted and storm-water runoff has overloaded the city's drainage infrastructure. The CWSP engages and supports the community and neighborhood residents in watershed improvement projects through campus-community partnerships. Dr. Barry Messer, associate professor of Urban Studies and Planning, is the principal investigator of the program.
