Greening our Campus
What is Portland State University's impact on our environment?
With over 50 academic, residential, administrative, office, and recreational buildings spread across 47 acres of Portland's urban center, Portland State University has a unique relationship with it's surroundings. More than 25,000 students make use of PSU's facilities each year, in addition to nearly 2000 staff, faculty, and community members. In doing so, we require services that we might never think about (heating & cooling buildings,
mowing lawn, waste and recycling collection), consuming vast resources (water, electricity, natural gas, food), and leaving a lasting impact on our ecosystem, community, and campus infrastructure (roads, buildings, grounds, trees).
The Sustainability Team within Facilities & Planning measures PSU's resource stewardship performance and strives to continuousely improve the environmental effectiveness and efficiency of campus services, resources,
and facilities.
