In recognition of Better Hearing and Speech Month, the PSU Speech and Hearing Department will offer free voice and hearing screenings for children and adults from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, May 10, in 83 Neuberger Hall. The free screenings will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Hearing screenings include pure-tone audiometry (500-4000 Hz) in both ears and will take approximately 5 minutes. Voice screenings include listening for a clear vocal quality (no hoarse or harsh qualities), nasality, loudness and screening for vocal abuse (excessive coughing/throat clearing, smoking, etc). Each voice screening takes approximately 20–45 minutes.

Graduate students enrolled in PSU's speech-language pathology master's program will conduct the screenings. Since 1927, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association has celebrated Better Hearing and Speech Month each May to raise public awareness of speech and language disorders that affect 14 million Americans.
