Fair Trade trick or treat

After more than a month of recruiting, planning, orienting, and overall just getting pumped up, the EcoReps are ready to introduce ourselves to the rest of campus. We are a group of fantastic students living in university housing who are committed to raising awareness about sustainability issues on campus. And, in the spirit of Halloween, we’ll be launching our efforts with a Fair Trade trick or treat event!

October is Fair Trade Month, so join us in supporting products that offer a more ethical, just, and sustainable alternative to traditional Halloween candy. We want to give a big shout out and thanks to
Equal Exchange for donating all the chocolates for our event!

In the afternoon on Halloween, we will be stationing ourselves in the main residence hall lobbies on campus: Ondine, Broadway, and Stephen Epler. Look for us, introduce yourself, and you’ll get a Fair Trade treat! You can also join us in the Ondine lobby from 6–7 p.m. to try some other Fair Trade snacks and learn more about EcoReps, Fair Trade, and other events on campus for Social Sustainability Month—coming up in November.

Happy Halloween!

Jennie Sharp is a graduate student in the Leadership for Sustainability Education program and the residence life liaison for the Sustainability Leadership Center at Portland State University.
