How are we lightening Portland State University's impact on our environment?
With over 50 academic, residential, administrative, office, and recreational buildings spread across 47 acres of Portland's urban center, Portland State University has a unique relationship with its surroundings. More than 26,000 students make use of PSU's facilities each year, in addition to nearly 2000 staff, faculty, and community members. In doing so, we require services that we might never think about (heating & cooling buildings,
mowing lawn, waste and recycling collection), consuming vast resources (water, electricity, natural gas, food), and leaving a lasting impact on our ecosystem, community, and campus infrastructure (roads, buildings, grounds, trees).
The Facilities & Planning Sustainability Office:
tracks and reports PSU's resource stewardship performance,
facilitates communciation on campus so each person has access to information,
supports students, department sustainability liaisons & green teams to become conservation leaders,
coordinates strategic planning to assure continuous improvement in resource conservation.
