Green Campus Tour: Smith Memorial Student Union
Smith is a hub of student activity and is also home to many sustainability innovations.
Located in the Smith lobby, this interactive dashboard allows visitors to see real-time water and energy use for the building. Look for another one near the east entrance of Lincoln Hall.
Green Roots Cafe and Student Green Space
Tucked in the basement of Smith is the student-run Green Roots Cafe. This sustainability-focused cafe oers local, organic, vegan, and vegetarian cuisine, and features ethically traded coffee from a local roaster that employs adults with disabilities. The cafe’s durable dishware and compost stations cut down on unnecessary waste. In the Green Space next door, student groups like the Environmental Club gather to share ideas.
Help PSU “Take Back the Tap” by refilling your reusable water bottle at one of more than 20 filtered water stations on campus (look for one in the Smith lobby). Initiated by a student campaign, these refilling stations are helping to reduce plastic waste from disposable water bottles.
Composting Station – Viking Food Court
PSU’s commitment to diverting food waste from landfills is exemplified through this creative recycling and compost station.
