Chuck it for Charity

Chuck It For Charity

is one way PSU Recycles! is working hard to reduce waste on campus. Each Spring, students moving out of residence halls have lots of items they no longer want or need. Instead of filling up the landfill, students have the opportunity to Chuck It For Charity! We collect reusable household items, non-upholstered furniture, clothes and non-perishable foods and donate them to Friends of Seasonal and Service Workers.

The following items are collected:

  • Clothing: Gently worn items of any size.  Warm coats especially needed
  • Furniture: Dressers, kitchen tables and chairs, coffee tables, end tables, bookshelves.
  • Kitchenware: Pots, pans, mixing bowls, dishes and dish racks, glassware, silverware, toasters, coffee makers, blenders, mixers and microwave ovens in good working order.
  • Small Appliances: Lamps, clocks, radios, televisions, irons, vacuum cleaners, phones, fans and space heaters.
  • Basic Household Items: Sheets, blankets, towels, area rugs, ironing boards, mirrors, mops, brooms, laundry baskets.
  • Non-perishable Food Items: Unopenned cans and boxes of food not past expiration date

In 2009, CIFC donated over 1,800 pounds of reusable household items to FSSW and sold the rest back to students at the PSU Recycles! Rummage Sale to raise money for charity.
