The following presentation was given on November 12, 2009 to Student Affairs professionals as well as students. The main take-aways from the presentation were as follows:
Portland State's online community is "siloed"
Groups pages, fan pages, and people pages need better connectivity
Information sharing can reach its potential when we are linked together as one campus community
Departments should build their bases (friends, fans, or group members) by searching for students who already belong to other groups
For example, searching for "Portland State Class of 2013" will reveal a group of several hundred students
Departments should also solicit students to signup on their Facebook pages during Orientation fairs in the summer months
Facebook is a powerful tool to communicate and engage students
