UP-COMING EVENTS!
The Village Building Convergence draws nigh!
From May 24th through June 2nd, students from all across campus will come together to reclaim our public spaces through placemaking projects, as a part of the 13th annual city-wide Village Building Convergence (VBC). There will be art, music, food, dancing, sunshine, frienship, peace, and love! We sincerely hope you'll come out to join in all the fun. Although registration is not required for any of the events, feel free to let us know your interest and availability ahead of time, so we can keep you informed and remind you of opportunities to get involved...

PSU is just one of 30+ VBC project sites across Portland, all of which will be abuzz with activity during these ten days. To find out what's happening all over town, and get the scoop on all the evening-time happenings, check out the VBC website:
We'll see you there!
Applications currently under review for SLS '13-'14!
It is with much excitement that we here in the SLS office have been reviewing all the applications that were submitted in the past few weeks. We are really looking forward to meeting all of the incredible people who applied to be a part of next year's team. We will be making phone calls by Friday the 10th to schedule interviews - which will take place from the 16th to the 21st - so hang tight!

Student Leaders for Service members provide five to eight hours of service per week to a community partner throughout the academic year, participate in a weekly meeting, recruit other student volunteers, and assist with organizing and implementing service projects for PSU students. Student Leaders receive a $1000 stipend throughout the academic year and are eligible to receive course credit.

60+ PSU students served the planet for Earth Day!
Over 60 PSU students woke up early on a Saturday for the Earth Day of Service and put in many hours together tending gardens on and off campus, cleaning up garbage at the waterfront and in the Pearl, and working down at the CAPACES Leadership Institute in Woodburn as a part of Farmworker Awareness Week. Afterward we gathered in Food For Thought cafe for lunch and were inspired by the words of Mark Lakeman, who talked about community building and placemaking. During lunch, we asked participants to "draw the change they hoped to see" on circular pieces of paper. After collaging the six separate sheets together, we ended up with this:
Thanks so much to everyone who came out! It was a pleasure serving with you all.
