The School of Social Work at Portland State University is proud to offer a new Online MSW Option, with a focus on Community and Organizational Practice! This 3-year program will begin Fall 2014. While open to all students wherever they live, the program emphasizes access to an MSW degree for working students, nontraditional students, those who live in rural locations, and others who need a more flexible academic schedule.
The Online MSW courses are fully online and will require students to be actively engaged in focused learning modules on a weekly basis. This includes individually directed learning, as well as collaborative learning with other students and faculty using web based technologies. Students will be expected to travel to our Portland campus for a 3-day (Thursday - Saturday) intensive at the beginning of each school year, to allow for some course delivery and community building between students and faculty.
Faculty teaching in the online program will engage students in dynamic learning opportunities, using an online curriculum, innovative teaching techniques and student-directed learning. They will have active involvement in the course on a weekly basis, including periodic face-to-face meetings with groups of students and/or the whole class.
We are pleased to offer students a degree option that supports a family, work, and school life balance. Faculty are enthusiastic about bringing technological innovations into the online environment and believe students will discover that social work education is engaging and exciting in the online MSW. For more detailed information go to the Online MSW Program website.
