Professional Background & Interests:
Dr. Burke has worked for more than 12 years as a speech language pathologist in primarily long-term care facilities. She received her PhD from the University of Nebraska- Lincoln with areas of expertise in adult neurogenics and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Dr. Burke taught at Rockhurst University for two years and Idaho State University for three years. She is currently an adjunct professor at PSU and ISU. Dr. Burke is the lead speech language pathologist and clinical supervisor at Fort Vancouver Convalescent Center (FVCC). FVCC is a 90-bed skilled nursing facility providing acute inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services. Dr. Burke has published five peer reviewed journal articles, co-authored three book chapters, and has presented both regionally and nationally in the area of head injury.
Dr. Burke enjoys lifting weights, hiking with her rottweiler and German shepard mix, listening to her daughter Erin on the squealing electric guitar, and reading Science Fiction novels.
