Dr. Lemoncello is pleased to join the fabulous
SPHR faculty at Portland State. He worked as a Speech-Language Pathologist at a
large inpatient rehabilitation hospital near Boston, MA prior to completing his
doctoral training. He became interested in cognitive rehabilitation during that
time as he struggled to teach new information and skills to a variety of
clients with acquired speech, language, swallowing, and cognitive challenges.
This led him to pursue the doctoral degree with Dr. McKay Moore Sohlberg in the
area of cognitive rehabilitation. His inter-disciplinary research focuses on:
development and evaluation of assistive technologies for cognition;
best-practice methods for teaching new information and skills to clients with
cognitive impairments; development and dissemination of evidence-based practice
recommendations; and graduate student training. He has established an assistive
technology research laboratory at PSU. He is currently working on research
projects funded internally by PSU and externally by the US Department of
Education. In addition to his work at PSU, Dr. Lemoncello serves on the
Traumatic Brain Injury writing committee for Practice Recommendations of the
Academy of Neurogenic Communication Disorders and Sciences. Outside of work,
Dr. Lemoncello enjoys baking; he has constructed six different wedding cakes
for friends' weddings.
