Dr.
Fox has taught at Portland State University since 1998. She worked as a Speech-Language Pathologist and
Clinical Training Coordinator at the Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center
for 12 years before joining the SPHR faculty. As a medical speech-language
pathologist, her areas of focus were neurology, neurosurgery, and medical
intensive care. She ran an innovative recreation-focused outpatient group
therapy program for veterans and their families who were living with aphasia,
and she initiated interdisciplinary programs in the medical center for
individuals with ALS and TBI. She is a founding member of Stroke Camp
Northwest, a summer camp and support network for families living with aphasia
that is a community partnership with Pacific University's schools of Physical
Therapy and Occupational Therapy, American Stroke Association, and Providence
Health & Services. Dr. Fox conducts research in AAC and aphasia, and she
currently is working on a research project funded by the U.S. Department of
Education. She enjoys all aspects of outdoor life in the Pacific Northwest. She
is a skier, fly fisher, hiker, sea kayaker, and an avid gardener.
