Note: Students are encouraged to join a faculty member for Master's Projects when available. However, students may also develop personal projects and work with a faculty member within a common area of interest.
Students who wish to sign up for a Master's Project must have completed or be currently enrolled in:
SPED 590 Applied Behavioral Research
Student must have completed student teaching, SPED 525 or have signed permission from the academic advisor in order to proceed.
Students must submit their application for participation in a faculty sponsored project within the first two weeks of the term, and must concurrently register for SPED 506. Most projects take a minimum of two terms to complete, and students must register for a total of 6 credit hours of SPED 506. Check with the faculty advisor and master's handbook for further information.
After reviewing current project availability, students must complete and print the application form, then email (youngh@pdx.edu) or mail it to Helen Young, Ed.D., Portland State University, Department of Special and Counselor Education, PO Box 751, Portland, Oregon 97207 or bring the completed form to the receptionist desk in Suite 204, Education Building.
Completion of an application does not guarantee inclusion in the first choice of a Master's Project. The Master's committee and faculty sponsors will work to insure that each student who applies in a given term will be given an opportunity to complete their work towards the degree.
