Selection Process
Admission to the Inclusive Elementary Educators program is selective and competitive. Each application receives a thorough review from the admissions committee. High values are placed on interpersonal skills, academic achievement, course work preparation, potential to meet the needs of pupils, collaboration skills, time management and organization, and successful experience with children (with and without disabilities). A goal of Portland State University's Graduate School of Education is to attract academically able students who reflect diverse cultural backgrounds and who seek to work with children of varying abilities. Applicants are interviewed by a team of faculty members and educators from the field.
Admission Deadlines
Applicants must submit separate applications and required materials to both the University Admissions Office (104 NH) and to the Graduate School of Education Office (ED 204). The current deadline is April 1, 2011 for admission to the 2011-2013 cohort.
Application Process
Portland State University Admission
Complete the online Application for Admission to Graduate Degree Programs and submit it to the PSU Admissions Office (104 NH, P.O. Box 751, Portland, OR 97207). This requires one official transcript sent directly to Admissions from each college or university attended. Plan to allow 6-8 weeks for transcripts to be received by PSU.
School of Education Admission
Applicants to the Inclusive Elementary Educators Program must furnish to the Graduate School of Education's Department of Special Education (ED 204) the following materials:
Two completed recommendation forms from supervisors of paid or volunteer experiences or from another person attesting to the applicant's aptitude for teaching. These recommendations should speak to the candidate's recent successful experiences with children or youth with and without disabilities.
