Distance Education Programs for Teachers of Visually Impaired Learners

LEARNING ONLINE @ Portland State University

The Visually Impaired Learner Program:

begins with one 8-week summer session, while the remainder of the program is delivered through web-based applications and culminates with a student teaching experience in or near the student's local community.


this 61-credit program for teachers of students with visual impairments (TVIs) provides either initial licensure or an endorsement for the current teacher.

VISUALLY IMPAIRED LEARNER PROGRAM

Supported by a 4-year federal grant through the United States Department of Education, Portland State University prepares Teachers of Visually Impaired Learners to become effective teachers in resource rooms, to effectively manage an itinerant caseload or to teach in special school settings.

  • Graduate level program for initial Teacher Licensure or Endorsement
  • Full time students will complete the program in one year, part-time students may complete in two years
  • Summer session on PSU campus
  • All other classes are web-based
  • Comprehensive technology training
  • Practica and student teaching arranged in your home area
