FINANCIAL AID

If you are a student seeking assistance with tuition, contact the PSU Financial Aid office website at http://www.pdx.edu/finaid. Portland State University understands it is important for our students to focus on their program of study without the concerns of a cumbersome financial aid process. This comprehensive web site was designed to assist students in processing all application forms online, calculating financial aid estimates, and even checking loan status! There are a few things students should know before applying for financial aid:

  • Normal processing time is 3-5 months, so start early! Your Financial aid file cannot be reviewed until you are officially admitted to the university.

  • Go to our Admissions page for necessary admission forms and deadlines for all Special Education programs.

  • Enrollment: The type of financial aid available to you depends upon your status (graduate full time is 9-16 credits and part time is 5-8 credits). Go to our Programs & courses page to learn about credit requirements for each special education program.

LOAN CANCELLATION

Special Education Teachers may qualify for 100% of loan forgiveness (Perkins) or up to $17,500 in loan forgiveness (Stafford) depending upon the type of loan. If you are considering becoming a Special Education Teacher and accessing financial aid, you can find more information including application and requirements by visiting: http://studentaid.ed.gov/PORTALSWebApp/students/english/teachercancel.jsp?tab=repaying

Students are highly encouraged to find out about this program before applying for financial aid to avoid any confusion.
