ProceduresWhat happens when I come in for an appointment?During
your initial appointment, you will meet your counselor and get more
information about the clinic and the counseling process. The
counselor will also begin to ask you questions about yourself and your
problem.
During the next couple of sessions the counselor will get to know more
about you and your problem, and will work with you to develop a plan
for resolving the problem.
Once the plan has been developed, you and the counselor will work
together to implement the plan and monitor your progress to insure that
you are getting the results you want.
Because we are a training clinic, counselors receive a great deal of
supervision. This is accomplished in two ways. For less
experienced counselors each counseling room has an observation
mirror. During your session there will be a supervisor behind the
mirror. The supervisor meets with the counselor after the session
to give feedback on their counseling skills. We also videotape
each session. The videotape is utilized by the counselor and
supervisor during the supervision process to allow the counselor to see
themselves during the session. This helps them to develop their
counseling skills. The videotapes are treated as confidential
information and only used for supervision purposes. Once the tape
has been reviewed it is erased.
More experienced counselors will not have a
supervisor behind the window during the session. These counselors will
videotape sessions, which will be reviewed with a supervisor at a later time.
These videotapes will be treated as confidential, will only be used for
supervision, and will be erased once they have been reviewed. Contact us: Phone: 503-725-4620
