Also known as the ‘SEED Cart’, Portland State’s first-ever mobile greenhouse will be constructed entirely out of reclaimed and recycled materials. In addition to the lumber being sourced from the Rebuilding Center, the walls and roof of the structure will be made using 3,000 plastic soda and water bottles.
The project is being developed, designed, and constructed according to the Social, Economic, and Environmental Design (SEED) metric - a new standard for building which aims to address the full complexity of problems in an effort to achieve true sustainability. The SEED Cart continues to evolve according to a public participation process which engages many members of the PSU community from across campus.
Here's a model to get the ideas flowing. Are you interested in getting involved? Do you have design ideas, technical ability, construction know-how, or just want to help build the thing?
