About Testing Services

Testing Services was established as part of the Counseling and Testing Center in 1965 to assist with psychological testing at Portland State University. As the need for student make-up testing and community testing emerged, Testing Services grew to provide these exams and many others. Testing Services currently proctors approximately 9,000 exams a year.

Testing Services Responsibilities

  • Receive, inventory, securely store, and return testing materials
  • Provide quiet, well-lit testing rooms with limited distractions
  • Employ well-trained, professional staff to administer exams
  • Strict adherence to high standards of test administration including:
    • Positive identification of examinees using current, valid, photo ID
    • Staff monitoring of examinees at all times in the testing room including the utilization of audio/visual equipment and viewing windows
    • Careful adherence to testing rules
    • Accurate timing of exams
    • Adherence to PSU Code of Conduct
    • Clear communication of procedures to students and instructors.
