Psychiatric Assessment & Treatment

SHAC provides a full range of psychiatric services, including consultation, evaluation, and medication management. Psychiatrists are medical doctors with specialized training in mental health. Psychiatrists are trained to detect physical illness that might cause emotional or psychological difficulties. They can offer clarification or opinions on diagnosis and treatment of these difficulties. Although psychiatrists are trained in counseling and psychotherapy, psychiatric services at SHAC  focus on assessment, consultation, and case management.

Students may be referred to a CAPS psychiatrist by their counselor. Medications are often helpful in treating symptoms of depression or anxiety.
