Portland State President Wim Wiewel has appointed Dr. Kevin Reynolds as interim vice president for Finance and Administration and Dan Fortmiller as interim vice president for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, both effective July 1.
"Kevin Reynolds and Dan Fortmiller bring deep knowledge of PSU and broad leadership experience that have made them widely respected across campus," President Wiewel said.
Reynolds has served several key roles in his nine years at PSU, including Chemistry Department chair, interim dean of the School of Extended Studies and vice provost for Budget Planning and Internationalization in the Office of Academic Affairs.
He has worked closely with Finance and Administration Vice President Monica Rimai and Provost Sona Andrews in developing long-term budget planning for PSU's schools and colleges and has been involved in construction projects such as the new Collaborative Life Sciences Building. He also maintains an active chemistry research program funded by the National Institutes of Health.
"Vice President Rimai has implemented important changes in our systems and processes at PSU and assembled a strong and collaborative team of professionals in Finance and Administration," Reynolds said.
Monica Rimai departs PSU later this month to become senior vice president for Finance and Administration at Willamette University in Salem.
Reynolds holds bachelor's and doctoral degrees in chemistry from the University of Southampton, England. Before coming to PSU in 2005, he was on the faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University and University of Maryland.
Fortmiller is associate vice president for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. He has worked closely with Vice President Jackie Balzer, who also departs this month for Willamette University to become associate dean of campus life.
Fortmiller started at PSU in 1985 as coordinator of campus Special Service, creating what has become the Learning Center in Millar Library. He also has served as director of the Information and Academic Support Center, interim dean of students and interim vice provost for Student Affairs.
He played a significant role in creating PSU's advising initiative as chair of the Academic Advising Council and has worked with the Office of Academic Affairs on PSU's Student Success initiatives.
"Vice President Balzer has been a true champion of the student experience at PSU," Fortmiller said. "She has established a tremendous leadership team, and I look forward to working with them as well as the executive leadership to maintain the momentum created by Dr. Balzer."
He holds a bachelor's degree in sociology from Lewis & Clark College and a master’s in education from PSU.
