Bridges Eligibility Criteria
The Portland Bridges to Baccalaureate program is open to all PCC students (US citizens or US nationals) majoring in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, Sociology, Health, Information Sciences and Mathematics who are also from groups underrepresented in biomedical or behavioral research and/or health disparities populations. Historically, individuals who are underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral research or who belong to health disparities populations include, but are not limited to:
- African Americans
- Hispanic Americans
- Native Americans
- Alaska Natives (who maintain tribal affiliation or community attachment)
- Hawaiian Natives
- Natives of the U.S. Pacific Islands
- Rural Appalachians

What is a Health Disparity?
Health disparities describe the disproportionate burden of disease, disability and death among a particular population or group when compared to the population as a whole. In the United States, health disparities are categorized by gender, race, ethnicity, education or income, disability or geographic location and sometimes sexual orientation.
