Event: Keith Walters to speak on immigration and bilingualism

WHAT: Professor Keith Walters, Applied Linguistics, will speak on "Immigration and bilingualism in the U.S.: Problems, challenges, and opportunities". Professor Walters is a 1975 graduate (summa cum laude) of Furman University. He has a 1981 MA from the University of South Carolina and a 1989 PhD from the University of Texas at Austin, both in linguistics. He has taught at the University of Texas at Austin, Ohio State University, and the University of South Carolina. He has also been a Visiting Lecturer/Fulbright Lecturer in Guinea, a public school English teacher in Lancaster, South Carolina, as well as a Peace Corps volunteer in Tunisia. He has been a Professor in the Department of Applied Linguistics at PSU since 2006 and is currently chairman of the department. In 2007 he was recognized as the John Elliot Allen Outstanding Teacher in PSUs College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
