Pre-Business RequirementsStudents may declare business administration as their
major field of study at any time after admission to Portland State University .
However, students must be admitted formally to the School of Business
Administration before they will be allowed to enroll in certain upper-division
business administration courses or to graduate with a business administration
degree. Application forms are available in SBA Student Services, SBA 240. Prior
to applying, the applicant must:
- Be formally admitted to PSU (see PSU application ).
- Have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.75 in each category below:
- all transfer credits and
- all PSU graded credits and
- all PSU graded business credits
- Students who do not meet the above GPA requirements will be considered for
admission only if the GPA for their most recent 28 graded credit hours at PSU is
3.0 or higher and their cumulative PSU GPA is at least 2.5 and the GPA for all
completed business courses at PSU is at least 2.5. A student who wishes to be
considered for admission under this rule must check the appropriate box the
SBA/PBAC application.
- Have completed each of the following pre-business courses below with grade
of “C-“ or better; P/NP grades are not accepted (effective Fall 2002):
- BA 101 - Introduction to Business & World Affairs (4)
- BA 205 – Business Communications Using Technology (4)
- BA 211 - Fundamentals of Financial Accounting (4)
- BA 213 - Decision Making with Accounting Information (4)
- CS 106 - Computing Fundamentals II (4) (effective 2002-2003 bulletin year)
- EC 201, 202 - Principles of Economics (8)
- STAT 243 & 244 - Statistics I & II (8) - Students must ensure that
they complete the section for business majors. Check the footnotes in the
Schedule of Classes prior to registering for these courses.
- SP 220 - Public Speaking
- WR 121 - English Composition OR UNST 101, 102, and 103.
Students who have met all of the
pre-business requirements are ready to apply to the School of Business.
