Kathy joined the faculty at PSU in 2006 upon completing her PhD at the University of Washington. Kathy is a certified public accountant (CPA) and prior to academe, practiced in Portland, OR as an Audit Manager at KPMG, a CPA at Irvine & Co., a Project Manager at Two Degrees, and a Medicare Auditor at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oregon.

Kathy teaches the intermediate accounting series in the Undergraduate program and Global Accounting in the Masters of International Management (MIM) program at PSU. She taught Audit and Teaching Effectiveness at the University of Washington. She has received teaching excellence awards at both PSU and the University of Washington.

Kathy’s research focuses on corporate governance and corporate social responsibility (CSR). Her research assesses the effects of reforms aimed at improving transparency and maintaining the public interest. Her research specifically focuses on the impact of the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX) corporate governance reforms on internal controls, audit committees, and auditor changes. Additionally, to assess voluntary efforts of companies to increase transparency, Kathy’s research examines corporate social responsibility disclosure quality and performance. Kathy’s research has been published in journals including Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, Current Issues in Auditing, and Research in Accounting Regulation. Kathy currently serves as Associate Editor for Advances in Accounting.

Kathy grew up in Bozeman, MT and enjoys traveling, hiking, and spending time with her family.
