John Bizjak has an Economics B.A. from University of California at Berkeley, an Economics ABD from University of Utah, and a Finance Ph.D. from University of Utah. Dr. Bizjak teaches corporate financial management and managerial economics. Prior to coming to Portland State University, he taught at Texas A&M University and was a visiting economist at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C. While at the Securities and Exchange Commission he provided economic analysis on topics such as nomination of board members, insider trading, option expensing and other issues related to corporate governance.
Professor Bizjak's current research interests include managerial compensation, corporate governance, and antitrust law. He has published in the American Economic Review, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Accounting and Economics among others. His work has also been cited in The Economist, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Business Week.
Dr. Bizjak is the first recipient of the Gerry & Marilyn Cameron Professorship of Finance. The Cameron Professorship was endowed through a generous donation from the Camerons to support faculty in the area of finance. Gerry Cameron, former CEO and Chairman of U.S. Bancorp, is dedicated to higher education and is a leading supporter of PSU's School of Business.
