Winter Break Travels
Winter break is a time for both relaxation and exploration for Flagship students studying abroad at St. Petersburg University. It also marks the halfway point through the yearlong capstone program.
Shelby Macy visits Jerusalem, Israel and shares pictures of her winter break trip.
Jerusalem, which is located on a plateau in the Judean Mountains between the Mediterranean and the Dead Sea, is considered one of the oldest cities in the world.
It is believed that the oldest part of Jerusalem, called the Old City, has been inhabited continuously for almost 5,000 years. Broken down into four quarters – the Muslim Quarter, the Christian Quarter, the Jewish Quarter and the Armenian Quarter, the Old City is not only home to many sites of seminal religious importance and controversy but also home to 2,000 archeological sites and more than 60 museums.
While that may seem to be a lot to take in on a short winter break, the mystery of this ancient city makes it a must see destination and is only a hop, skip and jump from St. Petersburg.
