All students who want to achieve high levels of proficiency in Russian are encouraged to participate in one or more study abroad programs in Russia. To plan your study abroad program in Russia please contact Alyse Collins (firstname.lastname@example.org) in Education Abroad.
All students of the Russian Flagship Program are expected to spend one academic year at the Russian Overseas Flagship Center at St. Petersburg State University. Students in the overseas program spend one academic year living with a Russian host family. During the overseas program they complete a rigorous program of language classes, audit university classes in their major, and complete an internship, which serves as the basis of their PSU Senior Capstone. Students are expected to be U.S. citizens or permanent residents at the time of application.

A Partner Institution with PSU will host one advanced student of Russian per year in the American Studies Center of the University. Interns typically spend Fall semester at the University, where they assist in cataloging materials in the American Center library and assist in classroom and extracurricular activities for students in the American Studies Program.
The intern will work at the Department of Foreign Languages and Professional Education through a Foreign Language Acquisition. The intern can have a range of roles from assisting teachers in material development to teaching his/her own communication class.
