Beginning fall term 2012, admissions to the Minor in Religious
Studies are suspended. Those students who have already completed RST 201 and RST 301 should consult with the program director, Thomas
Luckett (firstname.lastname@example.org) about the courses they will need to
complete the minor.
Religion is a major force in human experience. Its influence pervades every facet of society, from politics and law to economics and the arts, necessitating a cross-cultural and multidisciplinary approach to the study of religion. Students in the Religious Studies program at PSU gain the skills necessary to conceptualize how religions have shaped and continue to shape our world—skills that are fundamental to critical engagement with their local and global communities.
Religious studies does not promote or condemn any particular religion or worldview. Instead, the academic study of religion examines a variety of traditions from outside the framework of any particular belief system, using methods drawn from both the humanities and social sciences.
