Celilo Falls – Restorative Social/Environmental Justice

Facilitated by the students taking the class associated with the Social Sustainability Colloquium

Join us for two rich and important topics!!

The History of the LGBTQ Movement in Portland, OR from 1970 to Present, and the Social Justice Implications

This session will start with an overview of current national policy, including the National Defense of Marriage Act and where other states are at with marriage laws. Next, holistic framework of the history of the LGBTQ movement in Portland will be presented, organized by several important topics that will begin to shed light on the social justice implications. A short video clip of a current LGBTQ issue will set the stage for a think-pair-share exercise, which will guide discussion of the presentation and the video.

Celilo Falls: Opportunities for Restorative Social and Environmental Justice

The Celilo Falls on the Columbia River is a place with rich history that reflects changes in the dominant social perspectives towards indigenous cultures and natural resources.  The efforts to restore Celilo Falls to its natural state are compelling as restorative social and environmental justice.
