Reading Rivers: An Intro to Hydrology

Oregon is renowned for its scenic rivers that provide unique and exciting whitewater trips.  The PSU Outdoor Program is providing a free seminar on the basics of river hydrology that will help you understand when and where to plan your next whitewater trip.  Understanding aspects such as river gradient (FPM), river flow (CFS) , rapid class, and local river characteristics are essential to having a safe and successful time on the river.  Please join us at the Outdoor Program office.


Viking Outfitters: An Overview of PSU Outdoor Rental Gear

Interested in getting into the Pacific Northwest wilderness, but lacking the proper equipment?  Come by the Outdoor Program office to learn all about the excellent and wide variety of outdoor equipment available to rent that fits a student's budget.   


DIY the Outdoors: Gear Repair for Beginners

Is your rain jacket holding in the rain instead of repelling it? Is your beloved puffy jacket leaking feathers?  Is that awesome tent you got at the Bargain Basement not zipping up?  If you said yes to any of these, you should attend the Outdoor Program’s gear repair workshop.  Learn how to save some money, keep your gear going strong, and turn those thrift store finds into effective equipment!


Beginning Whitewater Kayak Seminar

Tuesdays, Thursdays, Sundays | 10/21 - 11/2

Class Times : 5:00 pm - 8:30 pm

River Times : 8:00 am - 6:00 pm

Are you interested in learning how to Whitewater Kayak? This Seminar will give you what you need to get started! We will meet for four classroom/pool sessions and two river trips during which you will learn the skills and techniques necessary for running white water sections Class II+. It is sure to be a lot of fun! (Participants must be able to attend all of the classroom/pool sessions and the river trip dates.)

Mt. Tabor Orienteering Seminar

Saturday | November 15 | 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

This is a day-long trip to Mount Tabor that will provide hands-on experience and practice in the art of navigation. Mount Tabor has two Orienteering Courses in place that will allow individuals to use both map and compass in order to complete. Mount Tabor also has a variety of geocaches in place that we will find as a part of this trip. This trip is open to all levels of navigation experience and involves a moderate amount of walking (4-5 miles over the day.)
