Major Academic and Student Rec Center Project Milestones

1987    ▪ Presidential Task Force concludes Stott Center too small for growing campus

2000    ▪ Mahlum Architects complete first master plan; not utilized by Campus

2002    ▪ VP Jay Kenton works with student leaders and Campus Recreation staff to initiate research into building of new

            Student Rec Center; approves use of land on Market St. between 11th and 12th streets.

2003    ▪ Yost Grube Hall architects complete first pre-design of potential dedicated Student Rec Center

2004    ▪ ASPSU elections pass a referendum for every student to pay a minimum of $41/per quarter towards construction and long-term maintenance of the Student Rec Center

            ▪ President Bernstein accepts referendum results and moves project forward

            ▪ Students allocate Student Building Fee money to the project

            ▪ Vice-President Cathy Dyck moves building to Urban Plaza

2005    ▪ Brailsford and Dunlavey survey over 2600 students and find a 66% approval rating

            ▪ Oregon Legislature approves $42 million in bonds for the entire building

2006    ▪ Vice President Desrochers initiates a building committee chaired by Associate VP Mark Gregory

            ▪ OUS Chancellor's Board becomes a partner in the building

            ▪ State of Oregon gives final approval for project

2007    ▪ Skanska USA and YGH win the rights to build the Academic and Student Rec Center

            ▪ City of Portland Archives become the third official partner in the building

2010    ▪ Academic and Student Rec Center opens to the public
