Frequently asked questions/comments/requests
-
Can we have more time reserved for basketball in the gymnasium?
-
I would like a specific Group X class offered at a time that I can attend.
Can we get punching bags in the Rec Center?
No. In order to maintain the health and safety of our members, punching bags will not be available in the Rec Center due to the staff supervision and significant hygienic maintenance that is required to keep them sanitary.
Can we get more hair dryers to check out?
Yes. More hair dryers have been added to Equipment Checkout and the policy has changed so that they are available to patrons after they have showered. This allows for more of them to be available/utilized when they are needed.
The day use lockers are too small. Can we get larger ones?
It was important during the design/construction of the building that as many students would be accommodated as possible. As a result, a large amount of smaller day-use lockers are available to our patrons. Understanding that our students have many personal belonging to carry throughout the day on campus, which may not fit in the day-use lockers, we offer a bag check at Equipment Checkout. There are a few guidelines in order to use the bag check and they can be found here (link to bag check policy online). Additionally, you may also rent larger lockers in Smith Union and the Stott Center.
Can we have more time reserved for basketball in the gymnasium?
Campus Rec recognizes that basketball is one of the more popular activities during informal rec time in the gymnasium and therefore it is scheduled more then any of the other activities offered. Because we also have members who are interested in other activities such as volleyball and badminton, we are committed to serving the needs of all of our members. Please be sure the check the gymnasium schedule so you know when certain activities are offered or when the courts are not scheduled for specific activities (first come, first serve).
Can we get different music in the weight room?
We currently offer several different playlists that range in multiple and broad genres of music. Because we cannot accommodate every taste in music simultaneously, we rotate the playlists throughout the day to diversify. Unfortunately, certain genres (such as hip-hop and hard rock) do not have censored station options under our current music system and are therefore unable to be played in the weight room.
I would like to request a specific Group X class not already offered or request existing classes be scheduled at a different time.
We strive to maximize our class offerings by both type and schedule. We are constantly looking at your feedback for requested classes in order to accommodate participant needs. Turbokick is one example of a class that was in demand and is now in the schedule. For Spring Term we also moved Cycle and Pilates back to 12pm based on participant requests. Please continue to submit your requests as we evaluate them all when we write the schedule each term.
Can we get different weighted barbells/dumbbells?
We are currently looking into purchasing additional light weight and heavy weight dumbbells. We recently purchased additional 5lb. weight plates that can be added to the 8 station. We are not currently considering any other additions to the barbell/dumbbell options we offer in the weight room.
I would like to use a different piece of equipment in the weight room that is not offered. How do you assess what types of equipment are included?
We get lots of comments with equipment requests. We keep a tally of all requests and as the budget allows we make additions/changes when appropriate. Some things we consider when deciding on equipment purchases include: space, what percentage of our users would benefit from the equipment, cost, maintenance/upkeep of equipment, demand, and whether or not we currently have other options within the facility that would meet similar needs.
I love the complimentary Clif Bars. Can we get more?
We are very grateful for our partnership with CLIF Bar and will continue to distribute their samples to ASRC members as they are available. Please limit one Clif Bar per person so that everyone can enjoy them.
