Informal Rec

General Guidelines for Informal Rec
- Shirts must be worn at all times while participating in any activities in the gymnasium.
- Any special events that are scheduled to take place in the gymnasium will take precedence over any Informal Rec activities.
- No experience is required to play any of these sports.
Basketball
- Basketball games are played to 15 with a 15 minute time-limit.
- Basketball scoring: Three-pointers count as two points and two pointers count as one point.
- Winning teams continue playing for the max of two games.
- Winning teams and teams that have "next" are required to have all five team members ready to play at game time. Failure to be ready to play will result in forfeiting the turn and placement at the end of rotation.
- A team is not permitted to have "next" on more than one court.
Goalball
- Goalball combines a lot of elements from the following sports: soccer, bowling and dodgeball. The game is played on the size of a volleyball court.
- Players defend the ball like a soccer goalie, throw the ball like a bowler or a fast pitch pitcher.
- Instead of avoiding this ball you throw yourself in front of it to keep it from scoring.
- Players are blindfolded. Again no experience needed. Campus Rec provides the blindfolds, balls and staff to teach you about the game.
Inclusive Rec Open Time
During any of the open adaptive rec times the court will be prioritized for anyone wanting to practice or participate in an adaptive sport such as the above activities of sit-volleyball and goalball but also we have the gear for blind soccer, wheelchair basketball or other wheelchair court sports. Let us know what you are wanting. Please contact Jen Armbruster if you want further information about any other court sports that are part of the Adaptive program. - The rule difference between standard volleyball is that part of your pelvic region must be in contact with the floor when you make contact with the ball.
