Name: Elise Ochs

My favorite class to teach is: Cycle  

Because: I will admit it. . . I hated cycle, because it was difficult and at times uncomfortable! Once I made it past my 2nd week, my body adapted and I was able to enjoy putting together routines to really high-energy music that wouldn’t work in other formats. It’s been fun exploring this class type. 

My favorite song on my playlist is: The Evil ID (Mark Sherry Remix): Max Graham

Because: It’s a song that will push you, because it’s fast-paced. You can’t help but pedal your heart out while cycling. No slacking during this song allowed!

I love teaching Group X because: It’s important to me to facilitate an environment that is welcoming. Group X can be a tricky element to incorporate into your workout if you’re not familiar. I love to be the person who gets to support my participants each week they return and guide them through the moves during class. I promise, if you keep coming back, you’re going to surprise yourself in a great way!

Because: It's a powerhouse of a song that makes longer sequences feel great. 

I love teaching Group X because: I get to introduce people to all the incredible things that can happen when movement, breath, and awareness come together during class. And I love seeing all the happy, relaxed faces at the end of class

My favorite class to teach is: Cycle/Krank

Because: Any type of music can be used, and beginners and advanced participants can both get an appropriate workout riding right next to each other.

My favorite song on my playlist is: Impossible to choose! But for Cycle I use a Riverdance song called “Reel Around the Sun” which is the most motivating song in the world for me.

Because: I just can’t slow down when that song is playing. No matter how tired I am, the fast beat pushes me to keep going. I always think of the crazy tap dancing they do in Riverdance and if they can tap that fast then I can certainly pedal or run fast too!

I love teaching Group X because: It is rewarding to see people new to Group X try out your class, feel successful, and come back. It is also great to have your regulars who you can establish a relationship with and push to the next level. Group X makes workout sessions fun and effective and the classes hold you accountable. There really are no negatives!

My favorite class to teach is: Zumba

Because: Zumba has been an important aspect of my journey towards fitness. It helped me lose a significant amount of weight, improve my endurance, and become more energetic.

I love teaching Group X because: When I took Group X for the first time, I was so nervous because I thought I would be judged for lacking in athletic ability. Three years later, I want to pass on the inspiration that I received by taking classes in an inspirational and judgment-free environment. That's why I love teaching Group X!

My favorite class to teach is: Cardio & Agility

Because: I love agility work as a cross training for sport or just overall conditioning. I love working with different pieces of gear on a regular basis such as the hurdles, agility ladder, steps and much more.

My favorite song on my playlist is: I am #1 by Nelly

Because: After working out hard and giving it everything you have no matter what that is, you feel and are #1.

I love teaching Group X because: I enjoy working out with a group of people in a fun, energetic atmosphere. I love the Group X setting as there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Being active with a group of folks and forming new relationships is exciting.

Because: Cycle is the greatest sport ever! I enjoy sharing my passion for the sport with my participants, or anyone for the matter. I love how cycling class offers a high energy, fast-paced and great workout for anyone who gives it a try.

Because: it’s fast paced and motivating, with an awesome build up that’s great for cycling or kickboxing.

Because: I like to sing, dance, and shake my booty while flowing through a dynamic sequence of postures, thereby getting an excellent workout, full-body massage and mood lifting jam session.

Because: I really enjoy the range of beats and sound in this song.

Because: I love feeding off the energy from my class. Having everyone in one place makes doing HIIT feel more like a party than a workout!

Because: The variations in the dynamics allow the energy to build, so we can push the hardest in the climax of the song, which is perfect for HIIT!

I love teaching Group X because: I love meeting all the awesome people that come to classes. Seeing someone become excited about taking a class for their first time is encouraging and makes me feel like I’m doing a good job.

Name: Sharon Pearce

My favorite class to teach is: Hatha Yoga

Because: I love the practice of Hatha Yoga! It is not only calming and therapeutic for mind and body, but also challenging and fun. Practicing the poses and transitional movements with breath awareness becomes a moving meditation and a very joyful experience – a perfect practice for a lifetime.

My favorite song on my playlist is: I’m not currently using music with my classes.  Though a favorite is LAYA PROJECT - LAYA MANTRA (Kartrck & Gotam Yalla Mantra Remix) (05:44) track 8 on White Swan Records Globesonic DJ Alsultany’s Yoga Lounge.

Because: It includes both traditional and contemporary music, chants and sound remixed that provides an upbeat and contemplative atmosphere. In Yoga, LAYA refers to absorption of breath and mind in the heart. Also, I appreciate that it is part of a project that documented the music of unknown local folk musicians in the remote villages that were in the path of 2004 tsunami in Asia.

I love teaching Group X because: I enjoy sharing the experience of movement and mood in a group setting. It is always my hope that participants not only become comfortable with the practices from classes but are also encouraged to explore and play within their own practice.

My favorite class to teach is: Power Vinyasa Yoga

Because: This term, I created Electro Power Vinyasa Yoga, utilizing progressive electronic music as the uplifting pulse for sequencing, and as a motivational influencer for endurance. Postures are connected through breath, muscle toning and strengthening. It’s a mind/body workout, providing stress relief and exhilaration. Let go… and get lost in the flow!

My favorite song on my playlist is:  Strobe by Deadmau5

Because: I love the slow electronic progression, deep beats, piano riffs, and beautiful harmonies.  It is a powerful song… and it seems to energize my classes as we move through yoga postures.  I love using music (especially electronic music) to infuse my classes with a dynamic progression and spirit.  My hope is that students connect with the experience, and get deeper into their practice.

I love teaching Group X because: I have been teaching for nearly 6 years, and teaching Power Vinyasa with Campus Rec since 2010.  I am very grateful to have the opportunity to guide students through such a physically and mentally empowering form of exercise.  It’s inspiring to have an impact on others wellbeing, and contribute to the health of PSU’s community. My favorite class to teach is: Top 40

Because: Top 40 is a high energy cardio dance class that uses easy-to-learn choreographed club, hip hop and pop dance moves, while incorporating strength moves to tone your body. Come show off your inner diva to today’s most popular music. Work up a sweat, move your body, and have some high-energy FUN!

My favorite song on my playlist is: This is a difficult question. Most of the songs on my playlist are all my favorite songs. I always put a lot of effort into putting together a great playlist that is amazing to dance to and motivates you to work your hardest. I would say that my two favorite songs right now are “Beg for It” by Iggy Azalea and “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” by Beyoncé. 

Because: I love these songs because the choreography is fun and sassy, it’s a great work out, you get to shake your booty, and everyone brings a great unique attitude to the songs!

I love teaching Group X because: I love teaching Group X because I enjoy motivating people up in a fun, energetic, and non-judgmental atmosphere, while teaching an explosive workout!
