Intro to Rock Climbing

What is it? : This is an introductory rock climbing course focused on basic movement and technique. Throughout this seminar, instructors will focus on refining techniques, increasing endurance, and increasing efficiency of movement. All skill and fitness levels will benefit from this foundational course. Students will also learn the basics of bouldering and top rope climbing as well as belaying. Day one will be spent in the Climbing Center located on the 3rd floor of the Academic and Student Rec Center (ASRC); day two will be spent at a local outdoor climbing crag applying the skills learned on day one.
Intro to Whitewater Kayaking

What is it? : Want to learn a safe and enjoyable way to explore the gorgeous rivers of the Pacific Northwest? Then Whitewater Kayaking is for you. This seminar is open to people with little or no kayaking experience and should provide the basics for running rivers. Participants are expected to attend all the pool sessions and river trips. All equipment and transportation is provided. This seminar is offered with optional academic credit through PE 199 Independent Study.
Backpacking Cooking Seminar

What is it? : This is a two day camping trip and backcountry cooking seminar for the purpose of teaching backpacking cooking and ration planning, car camping cooking (including dutch ovens), and many other cooking related topics. And, most importantly, we will be eating lots of amazing backcountry dishes!
Wilderness First Responder Recertification

What is it? : Wilderness First Responder (WFR) is the definitive course in medical training for outdoor educators, guides, SAR team members, and others who work or play in remote areas. The curriculum is comprehensive and practical, including all of the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments.
Clinics and Workshops are typically free of charge, unless otherwise stated. Registration is not required.
