Graduate Students

Existing Graduate Students and Alumni

One of the greatest assets students find in PSU's real estate classes is the breadth of knowledge and experience that students bring with them. With the median age of a Real Estate Certificate student being 29, most students are pursuing the Certificate while working and have varied backgrounds and experience, including but not limited to development, appraisal, architecture, public planning, brokerage, financing and lending, and market analysis. This leads to lively, interactive discussions in class where students learn from each others' experiences.

Development Workshop

The Development Planning Workshop is an interdisciplinary and participatory course in development planning focused on a specific new or adaptive reuse development project of regional significance. Acting as a group development team, each class produces a Development Plan intended to contribute realistic solutions to important issues of public policy as expressed through definable public-private development projects. The course collaboratively joins professional resources within the metropolitan urban community in urban, economic and sustainable development, urban planning, design and architecture, market analysis, finance, brokerage, management and law. Several real estate professionals act as mentors to the class, critiquing their proposed plan throughout the process. A formal presentation is made to several members of the community, with BOMA sponsoring the Spring workshop course and the Winter class competes in the NAIOP Competition in Seattle. Portland State University's Winter, 2007 NAIOP workshop team came in second place and the 2006 team won the competition.
