Six students from PSU's Real Estate Development Certificate program
presented their redevelopment proposal for the Lincoln High School site
to over 130 local professionals at the School of Business' monthly
Business Briefing meeting this week. The student team consisted of April
Chastain, Tyler Clark, Gonzo Grasis, Eric Hayes, Robert Pile and
Jonathan Winslow, all of whom participated in this summer's Real Estate
Development Workshop course at PSU (sponsored by the Building Owners and
Managers Association). After the student presentation, members of the
real estate community commented on the mixed use redevelopment plan,
inlcuding feedback and questions from a local real estate panel: Tom
Shimota with Pacific Real Estate Partners and current BOMA President,
Dick Spies with Group Mackenzie, Joe Weston with Weston Investments, and
Karen Williams with Lane Powell.
Copies of the redevelopment plan can be found here (PDF).
Special thanks to the BOMA organization for offering mentors to the students as well as their generous financial contribution to the Center for Real Estate for this workshop course and student scholarships.
Portland State has been offering courses in real estate development,
real estate finance, and urban development for over thirty years. In the
last five years, we have created new degree programs to meet the needs
of professionals in the real estate industry, both private and public
sector, as well as those seeking entry-level positions in the industry.
In 2004, the Center for Real Estate was formed as a partnership between
PSU's acclaimed Schools of Urban Studies and Planning and Business
Administration to manage the real estate programs at Portland State and
serve as the vital link between the University and the real estate
community. Consisting of a Director and Assistant Director, the Center
staff work with employers to not only meet their internship and
employment needs, but also provide them with valuable updates on the
real estate industry through the Center's annual real estate conference.
PSU offers three real estate degree programs: a Graduate Certificate in
Real Estate Development, an Undergraduate Major in Real Estate Finance,
and an Undergraduate Minor in Real Estate Development. Courses are
taught by faculty from both the Nohad Toulan School of Urban Studies and
Planning and the School of Business Administration.
We welcome you to take an online tour of our Center and PSU's real
estate curriculum through this website, and encourage you to become
involved in our Center, either as a student, employer, or supporter.
Cheers,
Gerard Mildner, Ph.D.
Director, Center for Real Estate
