About the Center

The Center includes a comprehensive and interdisciplinary set of academic programs that will contribute to the vitality of the real estate industry by educating students through degree and continuing education programs, and by conducting applied and academic research. Real estate students will gain valuable industry knowledge and practical experience preparing them to excel as leaders in the industry.

The Center strives to:

1. Provide the real estate industry with talented and well-prepared graduates seeking careers in real estate
2. Foster innovation and creative development that enriches Portland's reputation as an urban model
3. Provide industry professionals with access to professional development and scholarly resources

Center Staff

The Director and Assistant Director are available to advise students, create partnerships with real estate industry professionals, and put together programs such as the Annual Real Estate Conference and Graduate Student Reception for the real estate community and students.

Gerard C.S. Mildner, Ph.D., Center for Real Estate Director

Dr. Mildner is an Associate Professor in Urban Studies and Planning and teaches in the areas of urban economics, housing economics, public finance, cost-benefit analysis, political economy, poverty and welfare, economic development. His research is focused on the economics of local government, including growth management, rent control, municipal sports stadiums, housing markets, land use regulation, and urban transportation. Dr. Mildner obtained his Ph.D. in Economics from New York University and holds a B.A. in Public Affairs from University of Chicago.

Julie C. Gibson, Center for Real Estate Assistant Director

As the Center's Assistant Director, Ms. Gibson's work includes career counseling, managing the Center's Advisory Board, development work, and providing events to connect real estate students with the commercial real estate industry. Ms. Gibson brings a decade of real estate experience at PNC Multifamily Housing in Portland, OR, and First Federal Savings and Loan in Santa Monica, CA. Her work included asset management, underwriting, loan servicing and workouts, and affordable housing.  Ms. Gibson has an MBA from Portland State University and a B.S. in Business Administration from Pepperdine University.
