Alex is an Honors Program alumnus in the University of Chicago’s doctoral Germanics program. During his time at PSU, Alex was the co-editor of Anthos and studied at the University of Heidelberg in 2010/2011 through a Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) Scholarship. While in Germany, Alex took part in advanced seminars on topics such as Poetic Realism, Rainer Maria Rilke, the 19th Century Fairy Tale, and the poetics of Mary Magdalene in German Literature. He worked closely with faculty members and one such collaboration resulted in the seminar paper he used as a work sample for graduate school applications.
Alex also participated in an Honors Internship in Washington, D.C. in Spring 2011. He worked in the European Division of the Library of Congress, which allowed him to both continue exploring his passion for German Literature and learn invaluable skills that have prepared him for rigorous doctoral study.
After graduating from the Honors Program, Alex has worked as an adjunct German instructor at Portland Community College and German translator/consultant for the NBC television series “Grimm.”
