Rejecting a Third Dogma of Empiricism: Beyond Separate Discourses of Fact and Value
Wednesday, June 2, 2010 - 7:00pm
The Portland Center for Public Humanities is proud to join the Philosophy Department in welcoming Bryan Norton to PSU.
In his research, Bryan Norton has addressed the problems of species loss, degradation and “illness” of ecological systems, the problems of watershed management, and most recently, the problem of placing boundaries around environmental problems so that they can be modeled for study and management. In addressing these problems, Norton unifies many disparate views in creating a theory of sustainable development that captures the key role of human values in the search for better policies to protect nature and humans of the future.
