Professor Mavroudi is a world renowned scholar on the relationship of the Christian and Islamic worlds in the Middle Ages, and was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship in 2004. She studied at the University of Thessaloniki in Greece and Harvard University, and taught at Princeton University as well as at Berkeley, where she holds a joint appointment in the Departments of Classics and History.
