(Portland, Ore.) Portland State University (PSU) officials, faculty and students mourned the death of Oregon philanthropist and businessman Harold Schnitzer on Wednesday.

"Harold made a cornerstone gift to Judaic Studies, and that gift inspired others to give and grow the program,” said Wim Wiewel, president of PSU. “We are deeply grateful for his vision, sorrowful at his passing, and honored to carry forward his legacy through the many students his generosity serves."

Mr. Schnitzer’s giving has touched the lives of thousands of students in many areas throughout PSU including endowed scholarships and fellowships, Ethnic Art, and the Native American Center. He was also very involved in the Harold Schnitzer Family Program in Judaic Studies, which serves hundreds of students of all ages and from all walks of life each year.
