Checklist for Reusing a Previous D2L Course

 

This is a general guide of things to look for whenever you copy a previous course into a new course. Depending on the complexity of the design of your D2L course, you may or may not need to check every item on this check list.

  • Copy previous course into new course shell

  • Activate your customized course homepage (if applicable)

  • Check homepage widgets for any changes relevant for the new term (term information, CRN, ect)

  • Check Dates for:
- News Items
- Course Content
- Discussions
- Quizzes/Surveys
- Dropbox
- Calendar (NOTE! Calendar items are hidden within INACTIVE courses)
- Checklist

  • Check access restrictions such as hide, activate, locked, and conditional releases for:
- News Items
- Course Content
- Discussions
- Quizzes/Surveys
- Dropbox
- Checklist
- Grades
  • Revise and update your syllabus

- Uploading a new file (Word document or PDF): http://www.pdx.edu/psuonline/uploading-files
  • Check any Course Content materials that may have dates and/or time-sensitive information within them (for example: any materials that have the term information "Summer 2011" in it; any documents with due dates listed; ect).
  • Check all links to exterior web sites in the event that those materials have changed or been removed (news/periodical articles, youtube, blogs, ect).
  • Create groups and group restrictions (groups are not copied because they are directly associated with class enrollment which changes every term)

  • Remember to ativate your D2L course (you can activate your course early because students will not be able to access it until the start date.

  • If you use different start and/or end dates than the standard university term dates, check the start and end dates for your course (the course start and end dates are right below the "Course is Active" function on the Course Offering Information page).
  • Check your class enrollment in banweb (this is the official roster of registered students) with your D2L classlist.
  • Add any TA's, guest faculty, or incomplete students to your classlist.

  • Finally, use the "impersonate Student" Function to test the look and structure of your course (should also practice any quizzes/surveys).
