Christopher (Chris) Borgmeier, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Special Education at Portland State University. After completing his doctorate at the University of Oregon, Dr. Borgmeier worked for the Ravenswood City School District in East Palo Alto, California as the district Positive Behavior Support (PBS) coordinator. While there he led a district-wide systems change effort focused on the implementation of PBS in 11 schools. PBS implementation includes (a) training school teams to implement school-wide systems to improve school climate and decrease behavior problems and (b) training and supporting school teams to implement Behavior Support Plans based on Functional Behavioral Assessment to support those students with the most challenging behavior.

Dr. Borgmeier works with teachers, school staff and administrators to improve behavior management and discipline practices in schools. At PSU, Dr. Borgmeier teaches courses on Behavior Management in the Classroom (SPED 521), developing and implementing behavioral interventions for the most challenging students (SPED 510 – Advanced Behavior Management). He also leads the Positive Behavior Support focus area in the Special Education Department.

Since coming to Portland State University, Dr. Borgmeier has worked with a number of school districts in the Portland area to implement district-wide Positive Behavior Support efforts. He is the co-chair of the Oregon Positive Behavior Support Network, which in collaboration with the Oregon Department of Education, leads a state-wide effort to implement PBS in schools throughout the state.
