Meet Professor Teresa Bulman

Teresa Bulman, a Professor in the Geography department, received her Ph.D. in 1990 from the University of California, Davis. After several years working as an attorney she recognized that her real passion was for teaching and returned to university to study geography. She joined the faculty of PSU in 1991.

Professor Bulman’s principal research is in the field of geography education and geography and water resources. Courses include Resource Management, Water Resources, Climate Change, Severe Weather and Geography of Wine. Her desire to improve geography education in Oregon led her to her work with the Oregon Geographic Alliance, which she co-coordinates. You can learn more about the OGA at http://www.geog.pdx.edu/oga. Professor Bulman has written numerous publications and classroom materials related to K-12 geography education and she is the recipient of several national and university teaching awards as well as a National Geographic Certificate of Appreciation.

Professor Bulman is passionate about her teaching and cares deeply for her students. She opens students’ minds to a lifetime of learning by encouraging them to excel in all aspects of good scholarship including critical thinking, writing and speaking. Her greatest pleasure comes in witnessing the intellectual growth of her students, and she is especially pleased when students secure their dream jobs.

Ultimately, Professor Bulman has a vision for students that goes beyond the present to encompass an optimistic belief that future generations will share an enduring interest in our world.
