Increasing recreational opportunities in the Lents neighborhood
Student Project: Linking Lents

The purpose of the Linking Lents Project is to increase opportunities for physical activity in the Lents neighborhood. To accomplish this goal, the project team worked with Portland Parks & Recreation to recommend strategies for increasing usage of the Springwater Corridor Trail by Lents residents. This project has resulted in three products:

1) General recommendations for overall trail improvements and improved trail connections for walkers and bikers;

2) A map of walking and bicycling loops that connect the trail to neighborhood facilities including parks and schools; and

3) Analysis of three preferred sites for a trailhead in the Lents neighborhood.

It is the belief of the project team that while a trailhead in the Lents neighborhood is needed, a trailhead alone may not increase trail use. The project team recommends that Portland Parks & Recreation construct a Lents Trailhead in combination with improved access, connections and public education to increase use of the Springwater Corridor Trail by Lents residents.

Team Members: Carolyn Bonner, Dan Bower, Heather Marren, Michael Rose, Beth Shuck and Rania Wasfy.
