Profile: Meet Mark A. Gregory
An associate vice president, Mark Gregory oversees partnerships, planning and technology...but he also plays the blues.
Mark has been with PSU since 1998 in various roles. In this newly established AVP position Mark coordinates the university’s campus physical planning efforts and works to build partnerships within Portland that can aid in the university’s expansion. Mark also continues with his prior responsibilities leading campus technology offerings as PSU’s chief information office (CIO). In short, Mark’s mission is helping the FADM team create a bigger and brighter future for PSU.
Prior to joining PSU, Mark served as IT Manager and Senior Associate for the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory in Portland, and before that as a R&D engineer for a Chicago-based commercial software and network integrator. Mark's background also includes starting a small technology consulting firm. Mark holds an MBA from PSU (1998) and undergraduate degrees in Computer Science/Mathematics and Psychology (U. of Illinois, 1989). He has taught both undergraduate and graduate level IT courses.
Since 2003 Mark has been partnering with non-profits, other universities, and volunteer IT professionals to bring technical training and donated surplus computing equipment to needy schools and libraries in the US, Guatemala and Ecuador. He is an active member of the Portland Chapter of the Society for Information Management, and is the 2005 recipient of the Oregon IT Executive of the Year award.
Little known facts
Mark keeps busy off campus by hiking, whitewater kayaking and spending quality time with his wife, daughter and family in Portland. Mark’s friends say he plays a mean blues harp and can find familiar tunes on the flute... but that he really should keep the banjo playing effort “on the back porch” for a few more years.
