Up until now it's been a juggling act to balance work and school. Receiving the Maseeh Fellowship has relieved some of that pressure and allowed me to focus on my studies and research.
Robert Iwai, 2006-2007 Maseeh Fellow
First generation college graduate Robert Iwai transferred from Portland Community College to PSU in 2004 and received his BS in civil engineering June 2006. His two other brothers serve in the military. Robert is now working toward his master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering.
Robert credits his advisor, Professor Peter Dusicka, with opening his eyes to opportunities available for studying structural engineering, seismic analysis in particular. “Prof. Dusicka always takes time out of his schedule to help,” said Robert. “In fact, I’ve found that to be true of all my engineering professors.” Working with Prof. Dusicka, Robert’s research is focused on developing a new, earthquake resistant, lateral load-resisting frame system.
Robert is a member of the Civil Engineering Honor Society and the Structural Engineering Association of Oregon. Upon graduation, in Fall 2007, Robert would like to find a job in industry and work on his Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
When he finds the time, Robert enjoys playing golf, pool, and hanging out with friends.
